CANGAS™ Mode of Operation

The CANGAS™ mode of operation is based on flexure of a piezoelectric cantilever and acoustic wave detection of stresses and strains caused by the cantilever’s flexure. Various geometries and cantilever alignments are used to optimize the magnitude and characteristics of sensor response.

Mode of Operation:

  • Acoustic wave devices are sensitive to stresses and strains
  • Gas adsorption/absorption onto/into sensing film results in static bending of quartz cantilever
  • Δf is proportional to cantilever bending (stresses and strains) and less dependent on mass loading.
  • Short or long cantilevers develop a constant radius of curvature that defines the magnitude of response.
  • Well suited for all kinds of sensing films (polymers, thin metal films, thin metal oxide films and others).
